Nashville Winter Storm Home Repair Prep

In the midst of unexpected winter storm weather, you need to know with great certainty that your home is in good shape. Whether you’ve had roofing and repair issues in the past or not, it is never too soon or early for you to schedule an inspection to get those last minute repair issues taken care of before the extreme cold temperatures and above average snow accumulates. In the meantime, here are some things you can do while to prepare for winter storms.

Check Energy Usage

There doesn’t have to be a huge spike in your heating bills to indicate thermal energy loss in the home. Even small energy leaks will show up in the presence of unexplainable usage on your utility bills. You may even notice a need to frequently adjust the temperature in the home to keep it warm and comfortable. In addition to checking the paneling and molding around your doors and windows, you should have your roof and home’s insulation inspected to ensure they are efficient.

Clean the Gutters

Although this may seem like a fall related task, you can’t imagine how many homeowners neglect it only to end up with complications in the winter. Remember, the gutters help to keep moisture from accumulating on your roof and around your home’s foundation. If they are clogged, dirty and full of debris, they can’t act as an effective drainage system for your home. As it gets colder and snow starts to accumulate, the melting snow and standing water can refreeze, becoming a source of stress and weight to your home’s covering. Although your roof is designed to withstand so much weight, if it is in poor condition or outdated, it will not make it through the winter season unscathed.
