Prepare Your Home for Roof Repairs

After you have sent some time getting your finances in order and hiring a credible home improvement and repair company, you may find yourself at a loss as to how to prepare your home in Nashville for renovations. Even if you are having some roofing work done, just because the contractors will be working on the outside of your home doesn’t mean that you don’t need to make preparations before they arrive. To better prepare you and your home for what’s to come, here are some tips for you to use.

Living Arrangements

Depending on the extent of roof repairs that are needed, you may need to relocate until all repairs are complete. For minor repairs, such as the replacement of a few shingles and patching here and there you may be able to stay inside of your home. However, the noise level may cause you to think twice about it. Also, if you have children, you may want to schedule your roof repair work to be completed while they are out of school on vacation.

Attic Protection

If you have an attic, cover everything in it with plastic or tarp to keep them from getting wet and dirty. If extensive roof repairs are going to be made or a complete roof replacement is in the works, everything in your attic may be exposed to the elements. Plastic helps to minimize this risk by protecting your items.

Fragile Items

Remove any fragile and easily broken items, such as mirrors and paintings off the walls and chandeliers from the ceilings and store them somewhere safely until all roof repair work is done. Roof repairs often create vibrations all throughout the house and can cause fragile items to fall and break.

Safety

Keep track of your children and pets. We’ll make every effort to minimize any inconvenience and disturbances that our work may cause. However, it is your responsibility to ensure the safety of your pets and children.

Driveway Access

You should also keep your driveway clear to allow easy access to our contractors. This will also make cleanup much easier for our contractors to deal with once all repair work is complete.
