Winterizing Your Home: Part 1

It’s the start of the holiday season, and soon before you know it snow will be on the ground and on your roof tops. If you haven’t given much thought about your roof lately, now is a good time for you to do so. Because the winter season is one time of the year where your roof should be in great shape. Bluebird Construction is encouraging TN area residents to be a bit proactive this season with these handy home winterization tips.

Change Out the Furnace Filter

Change your furnace filters often to prevent it from working much harder than it needs to. A hard working furnace with a dirty air filter is more likely to conk out in the dead of winter than one that has a clean filter. It is also a good time for you to schedule a furnace inspection to ensure that your appliance is in peak operating condition for the rest of the winter.

Insulate Your Windows

If you can’t remember the last time you had your windows replaced, or you know for certain your windows are not energy efficient, cover them in plastic. If you don’t want all of your heat and hard earned money to escape outdoors, then now is a really good time for you to either have them replaced or insulate them with plastic to keep cold drafts outdoors where they belong.

Get a Roof Inspection

Unlike the siding on your home, you can’t necessarily look at your roof and know when it needs to be repaired or replaced. The roof on your home could be in dire straits and you not even be aware of it. To keep yourself from having to play with thermostat every 30 minutes to stay warm, schedule a roof inspection so you can find out what’s going on with it. The sooner you know what condition your roof is in, the sooner you can get it fixed and save money.
